365/362 Which Horse Are You?

Two Horses

Two horses, two sizes, two styles. The tall, stately horse graces the interior of a hotel in St. Louis. It is beautiful and performs its function perfectly. People stop to admire it sometimes, but mostly they move past it, barely glancing at it. It is peripheral in their eyes, another beautiful decoration in the hotel.

The smaller horse, on the other hand, was a gift. It sat on a desk as a reminder of the giver. A child enjoyed it one day…and broke the horse from the base—irreparable. But no matter. Just place the broken horse back on top of the base. It didn’t really need to be glued back again to still serve its function. The horse moved from office to home and then, in downsizing the home, it survived death-to-the-trash and followed its owner to another home, to grace another desk, to continue to serve as a reminder of the giver.

Me? I want to be the broken horse.
